More About Sandra

Sandra L. Brown, MA, has spent over 30 years working in the psychology field related to psychopathology. Her earlier years were spent developing a dual-focused treatment center for persons with personality disorders who also had trauma disorders. During this time, she also began working, in individual and group sessions, with the partners and children of those with personality disorders. She eventually established one of the country’s first prototype long-term residential treatment centers for women with Multiple Personality Disorder/Dissociative Identity Disorder. Sandra accomplished this while also providing treatment in a women’s inpatient hospital trauma program.

Sandra spent the years following the opening of the dual-focused treatment center writing, researching, and developing a relational theory related to women in intimate partnerships with Cluster B and psychopathic men. She was the founder of The Institute for Relational Harm Reduction & Public Pathology Awareness, an aggressive Trauma & Pathology Informed Care program that treats survivors traumatized by these types of relationships, and was an advocate for public awareness of the impact of pathology on others.

Sandra’s 30 years of specialization in personality disorders (Borderline, Narcissism, Anti-Social, and Psychopathy) has labeled her as a ‘pioneer’ in the field of Pathological Love Relationships treatment and research. Under her direction, The Institute became a leader in the development of a specific model of care treatment for this population. During her tenure with The Institute, she created training programs for professionals, designed public awareness campaigns, authored over 300 articles on field-specific topics related to these relationships, wrote multiple books, was interviewed widely by top leading newspapers and magazines, hosted The Institute’s radio program, appeared in documentaries on the subject, collaborated with Purdue University on the first research on women in these relationships, and lead the development of the first national professional association for NPD/Psychopathy Survivor Treatment and Research.

Sandra brings this field-specific background in treatment, research, and program development for agency consultations, mental health training, key note speaking, college lecturing, and program expansions. You can contact her at saferelationships@yahoo.com or by using the form below.
